I was tentative in getting this but glad I pushed purchase. All I need is a printer, scissors and tape and my kids were off to the races. They built an amazing structure. As long as I have enough paper this project could go on for a long time. Definitely met my expectations. Tina S - Parent, Super-hero

I thought my kids might enjoy this project, so I decided to give it a shot, since the description promised "clear directions." Well unless there is a separate file I didn't get there are basically no instructions. Seriously, the directions included say "Students will create nets on the grid paper... Christie M - Homeschooler, Parent

The volume product is perfect to teach volume, perimeter and area. This product is designed to encourage students to become architects and create their own city. Students will create a draft, make rectangular nets, build prisms and place them on a map. While the students are creating, they're also learning important math concepts that will help them throughout life!

What's included:This activity includes clear directions, student examples, a city planning project dimension sheet, map template, centimeter grid paper and rubric. This activity will encourage students to create their own city and learn about math at the same time. Students will discover how rectangular prisms are constructed and place them in appropriate places.  Students will also explore how grids can help identify the length, width, and height of rectangular prisms. By using trial and error, as well as perseverance skills, students will find the volume of each building and create a city that is only limited by their imagination.

See what others are saying ...★★★★★ "My kids loved planning, cutting, coloring and creating buildings in their own town. They spent most of an afternoon working on this activity. A lovely byproduct is all the learning that happened. My kids also know about volume and how to measure to the nearest centimeter. I highly recommend this product."

★★★★★ "This is fabulous! My 5th graders have really loved it!"

★★★★★ "This will work perfectly with my measurement unit. I love how students create their own cities from scratch. This is a prime example of a STEM activity."

    I don't get it
    Jan 17, 2018

I thought my kids might enjoy this project, so I decided to give it a shot, since the description promised "clear directions." Well unless there is a separate file I didn't get there are basically no instructions. Seriously, the directions included say "Students will create nets on the grid paper." Not how to create one, just do it. If you don't already know what you are doing, skip this one. Then there are some shapes printed on grids that make no sense. Nothing is labeled. I still think it would be fun if I could figure it out. I am super disappointed.

    Worth it!

This was an end of year project completed instead of a chapter in their math journals. At first, some students complained that it was too difficult. By the end of the time, each student had created more than the required amount of buildings. Some students even went above and beyond and created structures like skyscrapers and bridges. Love it when kids take an activity and go way beyond the expectations.

My kids really love Volume City! It's a really great way to help teach them about measurements and planning. It's been really fun watching them create a city and take pride in what they are building.

So much time and so much fun!

This took my students a ton of time to complete. They enjoyed every minute and learned about volume, too!
