Kids are amazed to learn about how communities have changed in the last 150 years. Through a variety of different options they have a chance to learn and share how things have changed. Suitable for children ages 7 and up.
This research project focuses on how communities change. The purpose of this project is to help children understand that life 150 years ago was very different from today. It will also help them to better understand what life was like in their community long ago and how it has changed over the years.
It is a great opportunity for children to discover landmarks and their importance in the communities where they live. It is also fun to see what used to be on the land where some of our common places are now.
(Note: In our museum, we have a slide show presentation that shows what our community landmarks were years ago, and what sits on those locations now. My students were amazed to learn about these changes.)
There are choices available as to how the project is presented. It may be a written report, a model or diorama, an interview, with a pioneer or first nation person, a pictorial history using a story map, or a brochure.
The criteria and marking sheets are included. I have left the community location blank so that it can be adapted for any community.
