Ten frames are a terrific tool for early numeracy. They provide an effective transition between the concrete and abstract stages of development, and are also a tool for mentally organizing quantities.
They're great to use as flashcards for instant number recognition, to introduce place value in the Base Ten system, and as tools for composing and decomposing ten.
Play games with ten frames, such as sequencing, memory/ concentration games, and the four games
included in this resource: “Spring Garden Spin”, “Eight In, Eight Out”, “Roll, Add, SCOOP!”, and “Hip, Hop, Frog Bop!”.
This seasonal set includes ten frames for bunnies, rainbows, umbrellas, ice cream cones, baseballs, kites, frogs, and daffodils. Each set has a full-color version and another with reduced color as an ink-saving option. Two sets of numeral cards are also included.
In addition to ten frames with traditional counter placement, additional cards have been included with each set. Use these cards as optional supplements, to build your students' understanding of odd and even numbers and to help students visualize addition strategies for doubles and doubles plus one.
