About Treasured Conversations
When I first started homeschooling in 1994, I had no idea that the limited curriculum options then available would end up being such a blessing.  As I looked into the eager faces of my children, I knew that they were relying on me to be their teacher--me, not a curriculum produced by someone else.  I am incredibly thankful that I learned how to design courses centered around my children and that I learned that my being an effective teacher was vital to our homeschool's academic success. Our family grew to 8 children, all of whom have widely varied interests and abilities. Treasured

I have been curriculum hopping for one particular child of mine for the better part of two years, hoping that a writing program would click with him. So far, no luck. It's not that he can't write; he has wonderful ideas in his head but struggles to put pen to paper in a coherent fashion. After coming across a homeschool blog that mentioned Treasured Conversations I decided to give it a try, with the expectation that it too would be shelved with the other things we've tried. But, oh boy! The author of this beautiful book surprised myself and my son. The way she teaches paragraphs is wonderful and easy to follow. My son asks to do writing first now and actually looks sad when the lesson is over. My only regret is not finding this gem sooner.

My kids have both enjoyed Treasured Conversations. One is a natural writer and the other very much not. This is a great curriculum to help students over the bridge from oral narrations to actually writing. If you have already done a grammar program, this will give your students a great opportunity to use that knowledge. If you haven't done the parts of speech yet, this is a good intro. There is plenty of scaffolding and the tone is indeed very conversational. This is not an independent curriculum - parent/teacher required. There is little prep other than reading ahead to know what is coming. If you are unsure of how to get started teaching writing beyond copywork and narration, this is a great place to start!
