Songs make a great impact on student learning, and when there is a chance to analyze the text, the learning that takes place is unbelievable. This close read asks students to explore a British and an American song that was around during the time of the Revolutionary War. Students will analyze each of the songs, while learning new vocabulary, interpreting meaning, and then comparing and contrasting both of the lyrics.
Song lyrics, 10 close reading questions, and theme/author's purpose graphic organizers are all included in with this guide, along with as Venn Diagram are all included for students to use to deepen meaning while using text based evidence to support their responses.
Students will deepen their understanding and use critical thinking skills to understand the meaning of the song with the questions included.
The lyrics, the metaphors, and the overall theme of this song will create conversation with your students which will have them thinking deeply while reading the text.
