Most children absolutely LOVE to play with cardboard boxes! Now… Just imagine the excitement when a child discovers that a large folded cardboard turns into a huge cottage playhouse with 4 windows, 2 doors (front and back) and 2 mailboxes, not to mention trees, birds, flowers, squirrels, cats, dogs, and even insects to color! It is a child’s dream come true!
Now imagine the excitement as you open the folded cardboard and your child squeals with delight because this folded white cardboard transformed into your child’s very own Cottage Playhouse!!! Who wouldn’t love to have their very own special place and especially their very own cottage that is big enough to sit in, stand in (depending on your height), come in and out of and receive mail through slots in the sides of the house?
My Very Own House, made of sturdy cardboard, is extremely easy to assemble, meaning if I can assemble it… pretty much anyone can! It was so quick to set up that I figured it out without even reading the directions. The base of the house unfolds and can be set up within minutes. However, it might be best to have 2 adults work together to maneuver it and get it up.
The roof and chimneys (there are 2) can be put into place without difficulty. The windows and doors are perforated and my 5-year-old granddaughter was able to carefully push around the seams to open them independently.
The best part is coloring and decorating the cottage. There are some markers included for your convenience and the sky is the limit as to how you may want to color or add details to the house.
If you choose, you can purchase additional supplies to add more dimension to the drawings, like some tissue paper to create 3-D flowers or leaves. However, you should keep in mind that with 3-D designs, it would be best to keep the house assembled. If you choose not to add 3D elements to the house, the house may be easier to store. If you have limited space, you can quickly fold it up and store it out of the way until your little ones want to play with it again, which might be everyday!
If you leave the house assembled, it might be a good idea to reinforce the top of the roof with clear packing tape and the creator suggests reinforcing the base with clear packing tape as well.
My granddaughter and I had hours of fun decorating and playing with this adorable cottage. I was the mailman and brought her mail. She was Rapunzel and peeked out of the attic window letting down her “golden” hair and of course I had to knock on the door to see if she was home to play as we checked the garden, made sure her pets were safe and collected the mail!
If you want to encourage and support your child’s creativity, then this My Very Own House Cottage Playhouse is for you!
PS: I hope you have as much fun with this as we are. My granddaughter and I are still adding details to the cottage and planning a sleepover where one of us will set up our sleeping bag in the house. I hope it is her and not me… I think I am a bit too tall!
