Product Description

This engaging reading log is perfect for teaching kids to reflect while they read.

Most kids I know do NOT enjoy setting their book down to fill out a lengthy reading reflection while they read. They just want to read!  Who can blame them? In fact, giving kids time to just read is the best way to grow readers. On the other hand, teachers and parents know that writing or drawing can be an effective way to process our thoughts, so it makes sense to teach kids how to add this tool to their reading comprehension toolkits. Reading reflections also help us assess kids' reading comprehension because they provide a quick snapshot of what kids are thinking, realted to a particular reading skill or topic.

This Reading Doodles booklet encourages kids to think while they read and to record their thinking in an appealing doodle format. You can ask kids to complete individual pages for occasional thinking checks, or attach them together to create a booklet for them to fill out whenever they choose during reading time. Some pages are better suited for nonfiction, some for fiction, and others work for both.

This kit contains both color and black and white versions of the Reading Doodles booklet.

  1. Print on regular printer paper or cardstock.
  2. Cut and staple. Add decorative tape or other doodads if you like!
