Great for learning proper note taking skills and perfect for students working on informational writing, completing research papers, or writing text summaries. I used to struggle years ago with teaching my young elementary students how to paraphrase and put things in their own words so that they weren’t just copying information from books. A few years ago I took the time break down the task and look at what I do automatically as fluent and college educated writer and see if I could put it in to terms my students would understand. Alas the task of teaching my students how to do a research report without plagiarism has become easy with the simple steps I came up with. I hope these steps help you and your students like it has helped me. *This is just a first step in helping our students write, ideas that aren't general knowledge will need author credit. Now updated to include a student info page with steps for reference and a poster so you can display the steps to paraphrasing! You could also print it in to larger sections to display as an anchor chart.

Just a California girl, living in a teacher's world. I love teaching third grade in the Los Angeles area while creating and sharing awesome educational resources. I've been teaching elementary school since 2000, primarily in third grade but I have also taught second and fourth. I've been a part of Whole Brain Teaching for over a decade, and believe it is the best classroom management system out there. I enjoy being able to mentor new teachers in classroom behavior management and motivational techniques to excite and engage their learners.
