HOMESCHOOLING FAVORITE: Pick up one of our top math programs! Math Mammoth Light Blue Series is included in Cathy Duffy's 102 Top Picks!

Math Mammoth Light Blue Series constitutes a full elementary mathematics curriculum for grades 1-7.

Some of the main features of the curriculum are:

  • It is mastery-oriented and organized into chapters by topics. Thus, in each chapter the curriculum concentrates on one theme and its connecting topics (such as place value, multiplication, or geometry). Each grade level typically contains 8-10 chapters.
  • The curriculum focuses strongly on conceptual understanding.
  • Visual models and exercises are used a lot.
  • Mental math and number sense are emphasized.
  • The curriculum is nearly self-teaching for many children, since the full explanations of concepts are included in the student books. Thus it requires fairly little preparation time from the teacher.
  • The curriculum meets and exceeds the Common Core Standards.

What is provided?

Each grade level in Math Mammoth Light Blue series consists of two student worktexts (A and B), which contain both the teaching (explanations) and all the student work (exercises). Also included are answer keys, tests, cumulative review lessons, and a versatile worksheet maker (Internet access required).

Additionally, the download and CD versions provide these "extras":

  • files to replace the chapter on money in grades 1, 2, and 3 in Canadian, British, European, Australian, and South African currencies. The student worktexts use U.S. dollars as a default currency.
  • bonus software Soft-Pak
  • user guide
  • Common Core alignment documentation

    Enjoying Math Mammoth

Math Mammoth is an excellent combination of mastery learning and problem solving and the clear self-teaching directions make this program a fantastic choice for home education (particularly of a big family where one mum can't sit with every child for twenty minutes a day!). I also appreciate the fact that we can buy the digital version once and use it for as many children as we need to. It's brilliant to be able to print off replacement pages when angry scribbling-and-ripping occurs. We've tried many different methods over the years that Math Mammoth is meeting universal approval in the family. Thanks!

    Loving it!

We have tried three different math curriculum programs but this one seems the best for the teacher and student. It is basically a print and go program. I print the chapter that we plan to work on and then break the sections up into days. I have my 3rd grader working on multiplication and my kindergarten child working in the 1st grade subtraction book. I love that it gives chapter tests for each area, answer keys, and a variety of ways to see the same concept. The price for this can't be beat! I have 1st-7th grade math for one great price! Plus, since I have it downloaded, I can use it for my third child. I just printed it on printer paper and keep it in a three ring notebook. I am so happy that there is not bundles of prep work and I can focus on one concept at a time. It makes math class not so upsetting - my third grader doesn't cry once a week anymore! Even the puzzle challengers make her think but dont bring her tears. Yay!

    We love Math Mammoth!

After using 3 years worth of different math programs, we've made the switch to Math Mammoth and I couldn't be happier! We are currently using 2nd and 3rd grade. The concepts are explained well, and the workload is perfect - not too much busy work, but also not too easy. My kids really enjoy the "fun" problems where each picture represents an answer to a problem, and the pictures spell the answer to a riddle. I love that there are plenty of real-life word problems, something many other early-elementary math texts are lacking in. Knowing 500-137 is one thing, but being able to apply it to a real life situation ("If you have $5 and buy an item that cost $1.37, how much change will you receive?") is something that many kids can't make the jump to without well-worded practice.

The price on the grades 1-7 bundle can't be beat, especially since as a download it can be used for multiple kids. I printed ours out on heavier weight paper and got them spiral bound at an office supply store for under $5/each. Very happy and relieved to have found math that works for us.
