Product Description

Book Clubs Made Easy! Resources for launching Book Clubs in just one week! Boost comprehension with deeper discussions about reading!

What is a Book Club?
Book Clubs, much like Literature Circles, are simply small groups of students getting together to talk about their reading. (And a powerful way to develop reading comprehension!)

Who is This For?
2nd - 5th Grade Students
Teachers wanting to boost students' reading comprehension through engaging (student-led) small group discussions.

What is Included?
* Book Club Overview and Management Tips
* 10 Slides/Posters for Introducing Book Clubs and Expectations
* Book Club Discussion Guide (with and without weekday titles)
(8 Page Flip-Chart) (print, laminate, chop, hole-punch in corner, add binder ring; one per group)
* Reading Response Journal aligned to Book Club Discussion Guide

Everything you need to introduce and launch Book Clubs in your classroom! Students grow vocabulary, build fluency, and develop comprehension skills as they discuss their reading in a meaningful context!

I use Book Clubs as an integral part of my Reading Block and merge parts of Book Clubs into Guided Reading. In Book Clubs, students take responsibility for guiding the conversation using the Discussion Guide provided.

Focus Skills: Making Predictions and Connections, Asking Questions, Inferring, Cause and Effect, Compare and Contrast, Summarizing, Author's Purpose

The Reading Response Journal can be used beforehand to help students prepare their ideas, during Book Clubs as a place to record information, or after Book Clubs as an assessment piece for the teacher.

The Discussion Guide and Response Booklet work with both fiction and nonfiction and can be adapted for use with chapter books, as well.

Because students must read the questions and respond, they also become familiar with common question vocabulary. (Great test-prep!)

Why Buy?
Spice up your Reading Block and get students engaged and excited about reading with Book Clubs!
