Opinion Writing: Foods (pack 2) For teachers and homeschools of students in grades K-2 Students can use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose opinion pieces in which they tell a reader the topic or the name of the book they are "writing" about and state an opinion or preference about the topic or book. The topic for this opinion writing packet is "favorite food." These opinion writing activities are great to put in a writing center for students to choose which pictures to use to give their opinions about. This pack includes 13 food choices for students to write their opinions about. The 13 pages include: hotdogs, hamburgers, pizza, chicken, french fries, corn dogs, pretzels, milkshakes, popcorn, ice cream, soda, candy apples, cotton candy. Each page includes a picture of the food with the food name under it. Each page also asks “Do you like (food name)? Why or why not?” then it has four blank lines for students to write on to tell their opinion about the particular food. Students love telling their opinions. Teachers can also use these writing activities as a whole class activity. Assigning these activities for a homework assignment can include parents in helping increase their child’s writing skills. However you choose to use these activities, I hope your students develop a love for writing.

The title of my doctoral study is "Writing Conferences in Kindergarten: Using Feedback to Enhance Student Writing." My passion is teaching writing to my students and providing feedback for their writing experiences. I love teaching kindergarten. It is amazing to see students enter the classroom not even knowing how to hold a pencil and watching them become readers and writers by the end of the year. I love teaching in small groups and rotating student groups with literacy centers and math centers.
