Thank you for taking the time to stop by and learn more about Educents and what we do. My name is Kate, and I am the Founder of Educents. Kaitlyn and I started this business to help teachers, homeschoolers and parents obtain the teaching materials and tools they needed, at a price they could afford.

Educents is the first group-buying site for educators (we launched in April 2013) and quickly saw over 1.3 million educators visiting the site. Now, with over 100,000 members (membership is FREE), teachers, homeschoolers and parents have saved over $7 million dollars in just 1 year. That’s $7 million dollars that can now be used for art projects, field trips, or even new equipment.

Since the start of Educents, over 170,000 products, from curriculum to art supplies and science equipment to printer ink, have been delivered to classrooms, homes and daycare centers across the United States.  All of which help students by providing the tools & experiences they need for an outstanding education.

We've had a lot of questions these last few months about our instant download deals and our teacher bundles. So, to clear things up, we thought a FAQ section would be a good place to start. Will my store sales decrease during a sale?

Not usually. In fact, we've never heard that before. Most teacherpreneurs actually see increases or very rarely, no effect, during the actual sale period. Since we only run our deals for 7-12 days, we can see up to 28,658 page views per bundle and 14,475 per individual deal. Freebie listings on our site see approximately 35,324 page views in just 5 days (freebies only last 5 days). At the end of the sale, we hear that teacher store views are up and followers have increased across all platforms. We also hear, quite frequently, that customers who bought an item from a seller, have since bought more from that seller, through their teacher store.

Will I gain new followers?

Yes. We do lots of promotion of your blog and your products while you are listed on Educents. We make shout-outs to your social media pages, and we link to your blog/website throughout the 7-12 days, sending traffic your way immediately. We want people to get to know you and your products. We want you to reach new eyes and new customers so we encourage our members to like you, follow you, and learn more about you.

Will I get sales updates?

Absolutely. You can now have instant access to your sales in real time. This means you'll always know how much you've sold and how your deal is doing.

How much will I make?

This depends on the price of the product; discount percentage, and whether or not you are in a bundle or listing an individual deal. Units sold typically range from 200-1,100 in just 12 days. The number of units sold is also affected by how often it is shared with others. We tap into our networks to have your deal shared and we hope you'll do the same. When everyone does just a bit to promote, it all cohesively works together for a great outcome. 

Will the process be clear?

We hope so. We are a growing company – we have just 10 employees right now and so we hope we are being as clear as possible. We work diligently to make sure that everyone has the information they need to be successful on the site. If you have a deal listing on Educents, you'll be in contact with at least one account manager and have access to our amazing team of dedicated staff. Is listing a deal free?

Yes. Listing a deal is free on the site and we do a revenue share for each product we sell. This means that we share the revenue generated from the deal 50/50. Since we are growing so rapidly, we spend approximately $3-8k/week on promotion for all of our deals. This means we work with partner networks to get the word out about your products, which we pay for. We also cover all credit card fees, any taxes associated with selling products on our site, and we also pay our staff to help promote these events and deals to our members and new customers that may not currently know about Educents. You’re not just getting promotion on Educents, you’re also getting promoted to our blogger network, our advertising network, and even on Google, Bing and Yahoo!

Can I list more than one deal on Educents?

Absolutely. There are a lot of teacherpreneurs that want to list multiple times with us because of the great exposure and the extra income they receive from the sale. However, we try to make sure that we have room for all teachers to participate. Our loose rule is once per quarter.

That’s a good question. We have over 200 companies we’ve worked with in just over 9 months of being in business. About The Founders:

Kate Whiting: Prior to founding Educents, Kate worked as the Director of Publicity at Weis PR, overseeing B2C public relations and marketing initiatives for many different clients, including Clif Bar and Leap Frog. Following that, Kate became the Chief Marketing Officer for two highly regarded education websites, overseeing all marketing, sales, and branding efforts for the companies. Kate was recently honored with a Goldman Sachs Business Leadership Award, has an MBA degree from the Lorry I. Lokey Graduate School of Business and an undergraduate degree from Mills College. She is a passionate advocate for women’s education and currently serves as the Vice President of the Silicon Valley Mills College Alumnae Association, which works within the Bay Area to promote women’s education through scholarships. Kate manages the Partnership division as well as the Teacherpreneurship division of Educents.

Kaitlyn Trabucco: Before she became a co-founder of Educents, Kaitlyn managed operations at Tiffany & Co., and consulted for small-businesses and start-ups. She also worked as a volunteer in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, helping underprivileged women start their own businesses. Somewhere in between, she found herself receiving an MBA at the Lorry I Lokey Graduate School of Business where she met the other Educents founder, Kate. It did not take long for the two to realize their strength together and as they say, the rest is history. Kaitlyn manages the daily deal division of Educents and all day-to-day operations. Kaitlyn is in charge of negotiating discounts with hundreds of publishers each year to provide educational materials at more accessible prices.
