Why buy?
Teachers and parents love Life of Fred because it actually gets students interested in math. Instead of the usual "drill and kill" approach, Fred uses entertaining stories that students remember forever. The author, Dr. Stanley F. Schmidt, developed this method through years of teaching in high school and college. Your students will never ask, "When are we ever going to use this stuff?"

    Great book!

I see my son completing this as the final book before "official high school math". It includes a wealth of information, such as Venn Diagrams, conversion problems and solving word problems. I like that it also touches on other subjects, such as payday loans and standard of living.

My son was behind in math, not because he couldn't do it but because he was BORED. We decided to change our math curriculum to Life of Fred, and I'm so glad we did! He loves Life of Fred and has more than caught up in the past year. He finished the first pre-algebra book in less than 2 weeks, of his own motivation, and has learned some basic physics principles that I had never learned as someone with a masters degree. He enjoys doing math now.

My daughter loves these books and so do I. We're both learning together and it's fun. The style of writing is engaging and I wish all school books were like this!

Algebra can sound like a scary dragon to kids who already cry through most math workbooks. This style of Life of Fred, and the brilliant package that pre-algebra is presented in makes my work as a home school mom, easy and enjoyable again. I love hearing my son laughing out loud only to find out he is doing math!

Fred has made math enjoyable at our house. I love that there is so much more than math to these books. We have gone on so many rabbit trails off of what we've learned from Fred which has really expanded on our learning. Even Mom is reading and learning right along with the kids.
