Is there any sample page from one of the Pre- algebra books we can see? I am thinking about maybe getting this for my 6th grader I homeschool, but he is gifted and talented and want to see if it is challenging enough for him.

We've just added them! See above.

Hi, my son is entering 3rd grade and finished the elementary series in a year. We ordered the intermediate math series. However, I don't think it will be enough for one year. Should we order these books too (pre-algebra)? I live overseas and come to the USA once a year. I homeschool math, english, and science.
Asked by a Homeschooler, Parent, and Teacher on August 1st, 2016 (Edited)

Yes, we suggest ordering ahead. Children progress through Life of Fred at their own pace, so you may get through the Intermediate series faster than you expected!

Where do you suggest we start for a struggling student going into 9th grade? He has a D in about every subject. He is ADHD/anxiety, and just struggles constantly without knowing where to start on assignments. Math and reading comprehension are really tough for him.
Asked by a Parent on June 21st, 2016 (Edited)

Good question! Life of Fred is aligned with subjects more than grades. For a 9th grader who is struggling, these books are probably a good start.

Are these three books typically a years worth of curriculum? I'm looking for summer to early Fall catch up for my daughter entering 8th grade.
Asked by a Homeschooler on May 28th, 2016 (Edited)

These books each have about 40 lesson in them. Each child is different, so the number of days it would take to complete would also be different. It sounds like this would be a good place to begin for your child.

What grade is this typically geared for? I have a 11 & 12 year old currently using Saxon 6/7 would this be the next step for them?
Asked on May 5th, 2016 (Edited)

If your kids are pretty comfortable with math, then, yes, we would suggest you start with the Fractions book at that age level and with completing the Saxon series. This is the beginning of our Pre-Algebra series.

My daughter loves these books and so do I. We're both learning together and it's fun. The style of writing is engaging and I wish all school books were like this!

  • Algebra scary? Not anymore
    Nov 15, 2016

Algebra can sound like a scary dragon to kids who already cry through most math workbooks. This style of Life of Fred, and the brilliant package that pre-algebra is presented in makes my work as a home school mom, easy and enjoyable again. I love hearing my son laughing out loud only to find out he is doing math!

  • We love Life of Fred!
    Nov 08, 2016

Fred has made math enjoyable at our house. I love that there is so much more than math to these books. We have gone on so many rabbit trails off of what we've learned from Fred which has really expanded on our learning. Even Mom is reading and learning right along with the kids.

  • Great series!
    Sep 13, 2016

I bought the entire series for my Middle School math classroom, and I'm so glad I did! I teach 7th and 8th grade so I got the PreAlgebra set for my students to help scaffold them to the Algebra concepts. Wonderful resources.

  • So far, so good!
    Sep 12, 2016

My daughter has been enjoying the elementary math series of Life of Fred, so I decided to try the Pre-Algebra series for my son. We are using them primarily as a way to introduce the concepts before he does a more formal Pre-Algebra class, and for that so far it's been great. I kind of wish that the books were not covering the science topics as well, because I would have preferred to stick with the algebra without delving into the Physics, but I think as an introduction to the concepts they will work out quite well.
