    Fred is fun!

We are new to homeschooling this year, and I chose LOF: Fractions for my 10 yo son going into 5th grade. He has always been far above grade level, but very unmotivated at school. He immediately took to Fred & is eager to complete this volume & move on to the next. So far he reads & works the problems independently, & he presents his work to me for the bridges orally. (I read it too, & as a retired fifth grade teacher I think it's brilliant!) We also do Khan, just for fun, which my son likes a lot too, since it gives him a lot of control. He knows if he's having trouble with a concept in Fred he can watch a tutorial on Khan. I'm a last resort. He loves that, as do I. We are looking forward to a great year with Fred & Sal!

I ordered this book for my 10 year old son, when the book arrived, my 7 year old started to read the book and cannot put it down. He really enjoyed the book, that we bought the fourth book of the life of fred - dogs. Both the boys enjoyed the book very much. The only problem is the shipping is a little bit slow, it took about a week for the book to arrive, the boy is counting the days.

At the pace my son is moving through the Life of Fred series, I can see him completing this book, over the summer. Reading through the book, myself, I'm excited for him to learn all the areas of math it offers... adding and subtracting fractions, denominators and especially, learning about savings and expenses!

I've been homeschooling 8 kids for 12 years. Everyone always asks about math. I've tried Saxon, Singapore, Math-U-See, and the Fred series. There are different types of learners. I'm a huge fan of Fred if you have kids that like reading more than math. In fact I'd recommend these if you have a child that is struggling with reading because "it's boring". Fred is funny and I find my kids of all ages giggling over these while attempting their work. They found a lot of the hands on work or drawing work in math you see tedious and unhelpful. (Great for artsy kids or kids with spatial leaning abilities.). Singapore just didn't click. Saxon was kill and drill and extra busy work. I have very avid readers and Fred fit them well. It's fast paced and low kill & drill. I have some learners that get things quickly and want to move on. For extra practice pick up the "zillions of problems" fractions also here at educents.

I purchased the reading series and my daughter loves it. I bought the math that we will be starting shortly.
