Life of Fred is a series of math books that break of the old pattern of drill and kill. Instead of nothing but dry exposition and endless drill exercises, they contain fun stories about Fred Gauss, a child prodigy math genius. During his hilarious adventures, he encounters situations that call for solving math problems. Children actually want to read these books.

The stories carry on through the exercises, leading the student through them. Many of the books have a series of quizzes called Bridges every few chapters. Passing a quiz means the student is ready for the next chapter. Some books have all the problem solutions in them, while others have separate answer keys or companions.

My children now look forward to doing math each morning! My six year old reads the lessons to my four year old and they apply the lessons throughout the day! It's so much easier to learn when motivated by joy! Thanks for making math a joy!

    We live LoF!

We are a homeschooling family and have been using Saxon as our main math curriculum. My kids and I love supplementing with Life Of Fred, as it adds another dimension to our learning. The stories are so much fun, the kids don't even notice that they are 'doing schoolwork'. I am so happy we added this series to our homeschool as it suits many learning styles.

    Game Changer!
    Apr 05, 2017

My homeschooled 2nd grader has been struggling so much with math and it broke my heart because she was convinced she just wasn't good at numbers. So young to give up! After a few months of struggles in other books, we tried Fred and started with Apples. Now we look forward to math everyday. It has completely changed the way she looks at numbers and my 5 yr old loves listening to the stories too. Life of Fred is genius!!! It brings tears to my eyes the difference it has made in helping my daughter to understand that math is everyday life. I had a hard time believing all the amazing reviews, thinking it would "slow us down" to do all this reading. But it really is amazing. I told her even if she goes to public school one day, I want to continue the whole series so that we can enjoy math together.
