Product Description

In this this mini lesson, students will learn how to make a simple circuit by connecting an LED to a battery. They can make a keychain, an ornament, or a decoration for their backpacks! This will give students a brief, hands-on introduction to making circuits. Regular KitHub classroom kits include lessons similar to this with even more details! KitHub lessons include NGSS and CCSS standards, assessment options, literature connections, and more! For more information and links, visit http://kithub.cc/. Before teaching the lesson, the instructor may want to brush up on a few electricity basics: • Electricity is when particles like electrons flow through a material, such as a copper wire. • A conductor is something that allows electrons to move freely. Copper is a good conductor because it holds only 1 electron in its outermost shell, which has a capacity of 32. That electron is not bound very tightly to the atom, so it is more likely to respond to electrical energy. Common misconceptions students may have: • The battery doesn’t create electricity, the electrically charged particles are already there. It provides a source of energy to get the electrons flowing. • An electric current is the flow of charge. The charges do not disappear when the circuit is broken, or the “current stops flowing”. • Ben Franklin’s kite did NOT get stuck by lightning. He would have died. He also didn’t “discover” electric- ity.

About the Seller

Our Mission
We started KitHub to help creative and inquisitive kids make things with their hands—things that light up and make noise, things that move, things that increase their knowledge of and joy in the world.

Our hands-on, fun and creative projects come with everything parents and educators need—including easy-to-follow instructions—to help kids gain the confidence and skills they need to create, experiment and design creative projects using simple electronics.

Our Story
We’re Tara and Luz, we’re full of energy (like our kits), and helping kids learn about how the world works through hands-on creative play is our passion. We both founded nonprofit organizations, DIY Girls (Luz) and LA Makerspace (Tara) to bring hands-on Science-Technology-Engineering-Art-Math (STEAM) programs to kids in the Los Angeles area. But we wanted to make sure that kids all over the country had the chance to embark on a lifetime adventure of curiosity, discovery and tinkering.

That’s how KitHub came to be. From us to you, wherever you are: everything you need to dive right in to the fascinating world of creative electronics. We focus on the fun and the learning takes care of itself.
