Life of Fred Dolls

Yes, kids have fallen in love with Fred and his friend Kingie. The perfect extra little gift. Students will love to have a doll to match all the fun stories they're reading!

Why are the Life of Fred books so popular? The books follow Fred Gauss, a child prodigy math genius, during his exciting adventures which encounter every day math situations. Children learn math in story like style and can’t put them down! The Life of Fred books were developed by a former high school teacher/college professor, Dr. Stanley F. Schmidt that developed the books originally for his own children.

The stories carry on through the exercises, leading the student through them. Many of the books have a series of quizzes called Bridges every few chapters. Passing a quiz means the student is ready for the next chapter. Some books have all the problem solutions in them, while others have separate answer keys or companions.

Readers claim there are four reasons to choose Fred:

  • The books are fun, engaging and the children almost don’t realize they are learning!
  • The Fred stories are clear, and easy to read on your own. Fred books use the self-teaching method. (If your student can't complete a lesson on his/her own, ask your student to contact the author - Dr. Stanley F. Schmidt will respond!!)
  • The books are affordable. Prices vary from $5 to $40 per hardcover, illustrated book.
  • The lessons are comprehensive. Fred teaches more than math. Every book covers English, Science, and real world situations.

What people are saying about Elementary Math Books: "This is my first year home schooling and I wish I had found Fred earlier. My son loves to read, so Life of Fred makes math a cinch to teach now." -Shanna, homeschooler"I see a light shining bright from within my son that was almost extinguished completely. As he watched me place the order for the complete elementary set of Life Of Fred, I said 'I can't wait to see how Fred starts, and I want to see how it ends too, so be ready to order more!' I smiled and assured him that not only would Fred be part of his learning as long as he desired, but that Fred would be gift wrapped for Christmas presents this year for his niece and nephew, my 2 grandchildren. No more costly potholes for this family!!" -Janet, homeschooler "My granddaughter, who truly dislikes math, always wants to start the day with Fred. I have to stop her after four chapters. She would do the entire book in a day if allowed. I never thought I could use math class as a reward! And she is learning besides." -Bette, homeschooler

I ordered Life of Fred Alg. 1 as review for them this summer. They like the fun and easy way it is presented and are understanding math more clearly. They agreed that they had fun with math for the first time ever! Now I can't wait for them to use the Alg. 2 and Chemistry books this year along with their reg. curriculum in their classes at school. It should be a big help if they don't understand a concept. Judy N - Parent I was a chemical engineer in my pre-kids life and I had serious reservations that a cute story about a 5 year old could teach math. Boy was I wrong! The first few in the elementary series are deceptively easy - cute, but not really challenging. By Farming I was starting to get impressed. By Goldfish I was really impressed and I am now awestruck in Decimals and Percents. This is a serious math program that focuses on how math fits into your life and slips really advanced concepts into elementary books. I do the lessons with my kids because I don't want them to gloss over those stretch ideas. Looking forward to Pre-Algrebra and beyond. Rachel S Life of Fred Beginning Readers From an Educents blogger: My younger boys, ages 4 and 6, enjoy their current reading program and are learning from it immensely. However as their reading skills are growing I know they’ll enjoy reading these Life of Fred Beginning Readers on their own. My 6 year old, Gabriel, can sound out many of the words when he picks up a Life of Fred reader on his own. To encourage the reading strengths of both boys I’ve been adding these Life of Fred Beginning Readers into our days as homeschool and family read alouds. At just 32-pages per book, we’ve read a Life of Fred Beginning Reader before bed over the weeks of our Christmas break. Both boys laughed out loud at Fred’s quirky adventures while learning interesting facts along the way. They always enjoy mommy reading to them, and they love that they can transition into reading these books on their own! The Life of Fred Beginning Readers Set has been enjoyed by my 9-year old daughter who reads the books to her siblings and can be found giggling mid-story as she reads them to herself. The entire LOF set can be cherished by a wide age-range in a growing homeschool family. What people are saying: “My reluctant reader LOVES these books (we have all 3 sets) and has read them again and again. I find them silly, but if it gets him reading, then they are good by me! Thanks LOF!” Erin P https://blog.educents.com/how-to-use-life-of-fred-beginning-readers-in-your-homeschool/
