How-To Writing Packet
This "How-To Writing Packet" promotes the use of first, next, and last to tell the steps for each activity. Using these basic three steps promotes retelling including a beginning, middle, and ending.
Each page has three sections with each section beginning with first, next, and last with blank lines for students to write the steps. At the beginning of each section, there is a blank box for students to draw a picture for each step.
The packet includes pages for writing how to: wash a dog, carve a pumpkin, wash your hands, brush your teeth, be a good friend, make a sandwich, eat a hotdog, take care of a pet, blow a bubble, and build a sandcastle.
I am a kindergarten teacher with 22 years of teaching experience! I received my Doctor of Education degree in Teacher Leadership from Walden University in June 2010. The title of my doctoral study is "Writing Conferences in Kindergarten: Using Feedback to Enhance Student Writing." My passion is teaching writing to my students and providing feedback for their writing experiences. I love teaching kindergarten. It is amazing to see students enter the classroom not even knowing how to hold a pencil and watching them become readers and writers by the end of the year. I love teaching in small groups and rotating student groups with literacy centers and math centers.
