Product Description

This fun book unit will help with your guided reading lessons. There are many activities that give your students a chance to show what they know from the book. The main focus is summarizing as students read the book.

This unit is a perfect companion for the book, Henry and Mudge and the Funny Lunch by Cynthia Rylant. This is perfect for Mother's Day too. Students will enjoy reading this book and working through the activities, which include some for before, during, and after.

The unit includes pages for vocabulary and summarizing. The summarizing pages are at three different levels for differentiation. The reading response cards are perfect to use in small groups or a literacy center. Students can show their writing skills with the writing opportunity included. There is also a comprehension quiz included with an answer key. I have also included a compound words game and activity.

A wife, a mother, a reading specialist!

I graduated from Longwood College in 1997 and spent the first 14 years of my career as an educator in third and fourth grade classrooms.  I loved teaching children, but my passion has always been with teaching reading.

I graduated from the University of Virginia with my Masters in Reading in May 2010 and waited patiently for the moment when I could do what I do most and help struggling readers learn to read!  In 2011, that dream came true! Now I spend my days as a reading specialist working with students in Kindergarten through fifth grade as they learn to overcome reading difficulties and work to become stronger readers.

In 2012, I began my blogging journey where I highlight books, ideas, and my days in the classroom.  You can visit my blog Reading Toward the Stars to learn more about my life as a reading specialist.
