This Greek Mythology unit contains my brand new lap-book genre study for teaching Greek mythology.
*I’ve taught myths with my students for many years, and it has become one of my favorite genres. I’m thrilled to offer my resources in a new lap book format. Keep in mind, these resources work well in an interactive notebook too.
~~~~~~Note to buyer: Please read carefully. Thank you!~~~~~~
*This product features characters for 16 different myths, but these activities are certainly open and ready to be used with ANY myth.
Here are the characters included:
Here’s a brief overview:
*Please read page 4 for directions on how to assemble a lap book. I tried to be very clear!
*Use the “What Are Greek Myths” mini-poster and QR code for building background. It links to a kid-friendly website.
*I chose to focus this unit on the following skills: story elements and vocabulary of the myth genre, the lesson of a myth, analyzing characters and their unique traits, allusion, compare and contrast, problem/solution and creative writing.
*The CCSS for grades 2-4 are at the bottom of this page for lesson planning purposes.
*I’ve included some of my favorite graphic organizers to use for the different skills in this unit, a fun story cube and spinner to practice recalling story events and allusion.
*The materials you’ll need to have your students write their own myth are included.
*You may wish to use the lap book as an ongoing unit organizer or as a culminating project. There are many creative possibilities!
*The blank Greek Myths Story Elements Acrostic flap book works well with helping students solidify their thinking about the genre. *Have them write one thing they learned about Greek myths for each letter in the word, myth.
