Frindle, the popular novel written by Andrew Clements, will keep your students sitting on the edge of their seats. Comprehensive plans include student journal, anchor charts, vocabulary building activities and so much more!

Frindle, by Andrew Clements, is one of the best novels to do with your class. This exciting book keeps students guessing about what's going to happen next, and gives you the opportunity to teach TONS of reading and writing strategies, all focusing on Common Core rigor.

This unit includes tons of resources designed to improve student comprehension and writing skills. You will receive detailed plans for teaching this book in 15 days, student journals, anchor charts for the reading lessons, vocabulary for each chapter, and 2 quizzes with answer keys (one for midway through the book and one for the end). I also added my set of dictionary skills task cards. You don't need anything else to teach this fun novel, except the books!

Reading lessons taught in this story are:
1. Making Connections when you read
2. Summarizing
3. Characterization (compare/contrast; changes in characters)
4. Elements of Plot (focusing on problem/solution)
5. Cause and Effect

Student Journal involves students in
1. Summarizing each chapter using Most Important Words (MIWs - Reading guru, Linda Hoyt)
2. Predicting
3. Comparing Characters
4. Relying on support from the text
5. Making judgments and evaluations based on what they have read and inferred

Extra graphic organizers included for deeper characterization, story element, vocabulary development lessons and writing extension activities (make up your own word, writing newspaper articles, and friendly letter writing).

Hi! Thanks for dropping in!  I love what I do, and am so excited to share my products with you!  I have been teaching for 14 years, all in grades 1-5.  This year, I've had the unique opportunity to teach a section of 7th grade Reading Comprehension and English.  I was a bit unsure when I began, but absolutely love it now.  Let's see, I have my Master's degree in Elementary Education with a focus in reading, as well as my National Boards Certification in Middle Childhood Generalist.  I'm a teacher consultant with the National Writing Project.  My products all represent my perspective of education: engaging, rigorous and fun!
