Capitalize the first word in a sentence and the pronoun I. This packet contains 10 pages. Each page has a simple story on it including five sentences. The ten stories are about hot summertime, my sunglasses, sunscreen, pail and shovel, beach ball, frogs, crabs, flip-flops, shells, and t-shirts. The sentences are not written correctly. The first letter in each sentence has not been capitalized and the ending punctuation is missing. Each sentence has at least one capital letter within the sentence that should be lowercase. Also, some sight words (2-3) on each page are spelled incorrectly such as ym for my. Have your students rewrite each sentence correctly. Begin each sentence with a capital letter and add the correct ending punctuation. Spell sight words correctly and change capital letters within the sentence to lowercase. The sentences used contain frequently used sight words, decodable words that students should be able to read, and a few other common nouns that students see often. These activities are great for morning work, literacy centers, homework or for a quick mini lesson on including capital letters and ending punctuation in sentences. Students can read the story to a partner or to the teacher after correcting the sentences. Students could also add other details to the story using the back of their paper.
I am a kindergarten teacher with 22 years of teaching experience! I received my Doctor of Education degree in Teacher Leadership from Walden University in June 2010. The title of my doctoral study is "Writing Conferences in Kindergarten: Using Feedback to Enhance Student Writing." My passion is teaching writing to my students and providing feedback for their writing experiences. I love teaching kindergarten. It is amazing to see students enter the classroom not even knowing how to hold a pencil and watching them become readers and writers by the end of the year. I love teaching in small groups and rotating student groups with literacy centers and math centers.
