This eight page book is designed so that you can copy the book, cut it in half, staple, and then it is ready for use. The eight pages consist of a title page “I see my…,” then each of the remaining seven pages contains a colored picture of a school related item at the top of each page and a sentence under the picture. Every page contains the sentence “I see my (then the name of the school related item to match picture is shown, such as “I see my book.”).” The seven pictures included are crayons, glue, book, pencil, scissors, backpack, and friends. Students can benefit from this reader by tracking print, identifying spaces between words, identifying particular letters of the alphabet, recognizing sounds (beginning, middle, and ending) in each school item name, and reading sight words and grade level text. For extension activities, students could add another sentence to each page giving details about each school related item such as “My backpack is blue.” This reader is great for guided reading groups, homework, or literacy center activities.

I am a kindergarten teacher with 22 years of teaching experience! I received my Doctor of Education degree in Teacher Leadership from Walden University in June 2010. The title of my doctoral study is "Writing Conferences in Kindergarten: Using Feedback to Enhance Student Writing." My passion is teaching writing to my students and providing feedback for their writing experiences. I love teaching kindergarten. It is amazing to see students enter the classroom not even knowing how to hold a pencil and watching them become readers and writers by the end of the year. I love teaching in small groups and rotating student groups with literacy centers and math centers.
