Back to School: Writing Center: School Theme Packet
This school packet is perfect for a writing center or literacy center. This 13 page packet includes:
5 pages – There is a black and white picture prompt at the top of each page and lines on the lower half of paper for writing about the picture. Pictures included are backpack, school building, teacher, bus, desk with boy. All pictures are black and white to allow students to color after writing about the picture.
4 pages – Three black and white or colorful school pictures with words are included on each page. After each picture, there are two blank lines for students to write a sentence for each picture. Page 1 has paint brush, backpack, school building (black and white); page 2 has bus, teacher, crayon (black and white); page 3 has scissors, notebook, book (black and white); page 4 has glue, pencil, numbers (color).
1 page – This school words chart has nine pictures with matching words under each picture. The nine pictures/words are glue stick, computer, scissors, bus, school building, books, teacher, pencil, and crayons. Laminate and put in writing center.
3 pages – 1) How to Walk in Line 2) How to go Down a Slide, and 3) How to Write a Sentence – The words first, next, and last are included at the beginning of each sentence step. There is a box for students to draw a picture for each step of the process, 3 boxes and 3 sentence starters for each “how-to.”
Writing pages can also be sent home for homework allowing parents to see their child’s stage of writing. I hope your students enjoy writing about each picture included and develop a love for writing.

I am a kindergarten teacher with 22 years of teaching experience! I received my Doctor of Education degree in Teacher Leadership from Walden University in June 2010. The title of my doctoral study is "Writing Conferences in Kindergarten: Using Feedback to Enhance Student Writing." My passion is teaching writing to my students and providing feedback for their writing experiences. I love teaching kindergarten. It is amazing to see students enter the classroom not even knowing how to hold a pencil and watching them become readers and writers by the end of the year. I love teaching in small groups and rotating student groups with literacy centers and math centers.
