How to use: 1.Give each student five connected unifix cubes, task cards, and a recording sheet.
2.Students will say the word on a task card and break it into syllables. As they say each syllable, they will break off one unifix cube. They will do this until they have said each syllable in the word. Then, they will count the number of unifix cubes they broke off. This should equal the number of syllables in the word. Students will write that number on their recording sheet.
3. Students will continue this until they have completed each task card. Recording sheets are included for students to complete ten or twenty task cards at a time.
4.Assessment sheets are included at the end of the packet. Students will use the unifix cubes to “snap and count” the syllables in each word. They will record their answers below the pictures so it is easy to collect and keep data.
5.The task cards can be printed in black and white or colored ink
