I have started a new journey in my creations based on my own toddler who will soon be in Pre-Kindergarten. Eeek! This line of products are dedicated to my work at home with her. So that’s why you see her name on the cover page & the little red headed girl!
So, what are sensory motor skills? First lets start with sensory detection, no sensory function works in isolation. Our senses work together and build upon each other. Sensory detections are~ hearing, vision, smell, taste, touch and lastly a balance and spatial perception. We use these sensory detections to carry out tasks using our motor skills. Our sensory detections communicate to our brain and then throughout our body. There are a wide variety of motor skills including~ gross and fine motor skills, rhythm and timing, muscle tone, strength, coordination, reflexes and more. Children who use their sensory detections through different explorations and activities to practice motor skill activity will increase balance, stability and muscle tone to be able to take on larger tasks.
