Product Description

These activities are aligned with CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.4.2, and also meet standards for CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.3.2 and CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.5.2.

First, students will look at a picture and write a main idea and three details (8 cards). Next, students will be given a main idea, and will write three details to support that idea (4 cards). Then, students are given a set of details and are asked to write a main idea (4 cards). Students are then given three objects, asked to determine what they have in common, and write a main idea and three details for the objects (4 cards). Finally, students will read a short paragraph and find the detail sentence that does not support the main idea (4 cards).

Originally created for my ESOL students, these activity cards have been used successfully with ESOL and mainstream students in grades 3-6.

About the Seller
1 Review

I am currently an ESOL coach for my district, working with both ESOL and mainstream teachers to help them differentiate and improve the quality of their instruction for English language learners. I currently work in Maryland, but spent several years teaching in North Carolina, and I completed my student teaching in Tennessee as well. During my career, I have worked with students in grades K-8, though most of my attention has been focused on the upper grades, 4-8. I have been invited to Busan, S. Korea, twice to conduct 2 week teacher training seminars on Content Based English Instruction for English language learners, and I am SIOP trained. In addition, I also lead numerous Continuing Professional Development courses, workshops, and focus groups for teachers in my district. In addition to my MS, I also have a BA degree in Spanish and Mass Communications.
