Product Description

Need some ideas when it comes to asking your students questions or planning Close Reads? This product contains over 60 different comprehension question stems that can be used during reading time, science, or social studies. Depending on the purpose and text, you complete the question stems to ask your students questions that encourage higher order thinking skills. The stems will help you in creating Close Read questions for any text, whether it is literature or non-fiction.

This file includes information on how to use the question stems, helpful links, tips for recording student responses, and 2 sets of color coded question stems: one for Reading Literature and the other for Reading Informational. The question stems include the CCSS anchor standard number, the Bloom's Taxonomy level, and Depth of Knowledge levl. There are over 60 different question stems included. These stems can be used for Close Reads. The question stems are also offered in a black and white version to save color ink! If you still want to have color coded cards, you can somply print onto colored paper.

If you use CCSS, there are observation checklists for the anchor standards and grades K-5. There are 2 sets. One set has all the CCSS on one page for those who want to hit each standard before repeating a standard. The other set is domain specific for those who would like to focus on one domain at a time.

About the Seller

I have 16 years of educational experience. I am currently a middle school social studies teacher and am loving it! I have taught grades K-6 either as a homeroom teacher, Title I/EIP teacher, Extended Day teacher, and instructional coach. My goal is to create interactive lessons and units that bring social studies alive for my students and help them make personal connections to the content.
