If your kids love the book series "Henry and Mudge" by Cynthia Rylant then they will LOVE getting to use this fun take-home bag!
As an extension reading and writing activity, each student will have the chance to take Mudge home as their new best friend (a printable Mudge is included in the packet-the stuffed animal Mudge is not provided, but information about where to purchase him can be found HERE). The journal allows students to write about their current best friend and also their time with their new best friend, Mudge. Students will also get to draw or include printed pictures of their current and new best friend, list qualities/characteristics of good friends, write an opinion about whether Mudge makes a good friend, and write about their time with their best friends! All of the instructions are included in a letter from Mudge that goes in the front of the journal. The student will then bring everything back the next day or two to share with the class--this is a great speaking and listening activity as well as a great way to connect home and school! It is also perfect for a friendship unit, book/author unit, or as a reading and writing extension activity!
Altogether this packet includes: -Instructions on making and using the take-home bag -Journal Cover (in color & black and white) -Instruction Letter from Mudge (in color & black and white) -Journal Pages -name cards (for choosing a student each day-in color & black and white) -a printable Mudge (incase you don't have a stuffed animal Mudge-in color & black and white)
I hope your students enjoy this take-home bag as much as mine do! Let me know if you have any questions!
