Product Description

Do you need a way to have your students understand metric measurement?
This Common Core Aligned Lapbook should help.

4.MD.1- Know relative sizes of
measurement units within one system of units including km, m, cm; kg, g; lb,
oz.; l, ml; hr, min, sec. Within a single
system of measurement, express
measurements in a larger unit in terms
of a smaller unit. Record measurement
equivalents in a two-column table.

4.MD.2-Use the four operations to solve
word problems involving distances, intervals of time, liquid volumes, masses of objects, and money, including problems involving simple fractions or
decimals, and problems that require expressing measurements given in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit.

Students create flapbooks to insert into a Lapbook. However, the flapbooks can also be inserted into a notebook.

Concepts included in lapbook:

Metric Measurement Term box fold includes:
metric system, length, mass, capacity
Tips for Metric Measurement Conversions booklet includes descriptions and conversion charts (partially to be completed by the student) of the following terms and concepts:
length, length conversions, mass, mass conversions, capacity and capacity conversions
Understanding Metric Prefixes box fold includes:
base unit, milli-, centi- and kilo-
Metric Conversions booklet includes:
3 word problems- one each for length, mass, and capacity.

In the center there is the "Metric Conversions Staircase" to be used to remember conversions. Students color-code the steps to remember the order.

Lots of great review and room for students to create their own examples.

For those of you who have copy limitations, I created an extra page for you to just print out the "Tips for Metric Measurement Conversions" boxes and the students can create their own flipbook with construction paper or sentence strips. I have also included some "copy friendly" to help with printing.

Hope you can use it!

• An easy lapbook!

This was a great, easy to assemble lapbook that I was able to use with my homeschooled sons while we learned and reviewed the metric system!

After 20 years teaching grades 1, 2, 4, and 5, I am beginning a new adventure as an ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) teacher.  I am excited to branch out and explore new ways of teaching.  Over the years, I have created resources that fit the needs of my classroom.  You will mostly find math materials because for the last three years, I was only teaching math.  However, now that I am entering the world of English Language Learners, you will begin to find materials that will help ELL students in addition to helping all students with reading, writing, listening and speaking.  I believe strongly in creating materials that provide opportunities for students to be engaged in hands on learning as well as providing them opportunities to express what they know in creative ways.  I am so excited to share them with you!
