• Makes Math Fun
Jul 11, 2016

My 11 year old was new to homeschooling this year and didn't like the Singapore Math I was using for her sister. So we tried Life of Fred. She loves it! She is able to be much more independent with her math, which makes her enjoy it more. We got about half way through Fractions before she got really stuck and I realized we need to back up and do the intermediate series to fill in some holes where she was missing some skills. So I have ordered the intermediate series and we will work our way back up to Fractions. She is all smiles about Math now!

My only issue with LoF is that it can be difficult for me to help her when she gets stuck. The math is mixed into the story, so I really have to hunt for the explanation if I need to help her. I think it will be worth the extra effort to continue with this series because she is enjoying it so much. If you, as a teacher, are solid in Math, this won't be an issue for you. For those of us who need a little refresher, it's a challenge but still do-able.

• LoF makes intense math fun!
Apr 11, 2016

We are just getting into the series and finding it so much fun. The way the author weaves intricate math into everyday life has us all starting to see math in everything around us and looking to find it where we never would before. It is not just math, but some science, history and English grammar is all in these books. Thanks Life of Fred!

• He likes Math now!
Apr 04, 2016

In his early years my son lives math. When I started him in pre-algebra this year he started saying he hated math and wouldn't want to do it. With Life of Fred he's starting to like math again. I live the short lessons, the stories that captivate, and the relevance to life scenarios. The part that is hard for me is not teaching. I want to teach it, but I am hoping he learns to read and learn it himself. So far so good.

• Great way to learn fractions and decimals!

I love how Dr. Schmidt put everything you need to know about fractions in one book and everything you need to know about decimals and percents in another book. It's a great way to learn and each lesson builds on itself. These are much harder than the elementary series and kids may not fly through the lessons as they did in previous books.

The Life of Fred series is written for kids in mind. It's engaging and educational at the same time. If you have a child that struggles with math , fights with you about "doing" math and complains the entire time while "doing " math. This series is for THAT child. If you have child that enjoys math, this series is for THAT child. Life of Fred develops a love for math in a children, 6 - 106! This is a MUST for any and all homeschoolers.

We have only had this series 2 days but what a life changer. My daughter has fought me on math since 1st grade. Today I found her snuggled up in her bed working through fractions on her own. I can not put a price on the peace this book has brought so far

• Love how Fred uses math!

You just want to keep reading this math book! Yes, I said reading. a. math. book.
He pulls from so many examples and how to use math to solve such example! My kids work ahead of schedule to do these math problems because they know there's more stories for them after they finish the bridges. I would also consider buying supplemental worksheets to really drive home the concepts they might otherwise forget.
