We tried out these books recently and have fallen in love with them. Our oldest will be 6 soon and was struggling with confidence in her reading abilities. She honestly just didn't even want to try. These books helped coax her back into the wonderful world of reading by taking her mind off of the task at hand. They're silly and fun while also being educational. Love Life of Fred!

Wonderful Introduction to Reading
May 16, 2016
This beginner's series is a hit with my 4 year old. With his older siblings having the LOF math books, he wanted some of his own so I ordered this set for him. He is absolutely in love with it and it has helped him to identify some common words. These are his go to books when asked to read.

My youngest has seen me use Fred books with her older brother, and was ecstatic to get some right for her. This series was simple enough for her to fly through, building up her reading confidence, so that she was able to attack her schoolwork with zest.

Great introduction to LOF!

I got these books for my 4 year old to learn to read. He can read some of the words, but many he cannot. He enjoys the simple photos and crazy adventures of Fred. It's a great introduction to LOF, as we will start on Apples soon.

Enjoyable to listen to as well as to read

So many early readers are rather dull for both reader and listener. Life of Fred makes it enjoyable for all involved. We adore the math series, and were pleased to see the "fun" of Life of Fred continued in this series as well.

great for young readers

We love this set, while it is odd to read for me as it is not a typical book by 2 year old loves it and remembers some of the words, and my 7 year old who has a lot of trouble reading is finally reading better and not stressing out!

We have tried many different readers to engage our children. These Life of Fred ones are a lot of fun. The stories are fairly simply but they encourage you to keep on reading throughout the book. We are so glad there are 2 sets of them.

Not your average early readers
Feb 26, 2016
We have used several early reader sets over the past decade for our kids, and none compare to these. The first book, Blue, is deceptively simple, but the books have a sweet way of pulling you in to the story. The single sequential story line inspires readers to keep reading, and the difficulty level rises ever so slightly that they hardly notice it. After reading the 6th book, one of my readers went back to reread the first, and couldn't believe how fast he could read it. Once the kids have their phonics down, they should be able to work their way through the series.

I got the first set of readers to go along with the life of Fred math series. The stories are funny and enjoyable. My 9,7, 3 and one year old all like to hear the stories. We use them for fun reading.

Not phonics based

This is a type of learning to read with whole word memorization which is fine but just so you know. Very feel words can be sounded out. That being said we love Fred and these have been favorites for my kids. They don't mind reading them over and over again.

My seven year old said, "These are dumb." Then I caught him after dark in the family room reading the stack of them. We loved the math books so much that I knew the early readers would draw my kids in , as well. Anything to get them reading and loving it!

My reluctant (7yo) reader just read the first six of these books this afternoon! Score! She giggled so much, my fifth grader put down her Harry Potter to get in on the Fred stories. I also made her re-read the last two because I had to take a phone call and missed out! Looks like Fred is a fav for the whole fam!
As a side note, French fries made it on the menu for tomorrow. ;)
So much fun!

All of our kids have been gathering around to hear about the silly adventures of Fred. Our youngest is a hesitant reader, but every day he pulls out several of these to read to me. And the laughter begins. It has been so wonderful hearing his giggles and to see the LIFE being infused into this little boy all due to the pages of a few readers.

I gave my six year old son and seven year old daughter these books and they loved them so much that we take turns reading them out loud before bedtime. I am amazed at how engaged they are with these books! Fred is our favorite character!

My children absolutely love Fred. Aside from All About Spelling, it is their favorite "subject." We laugh while we read it together. Fred is known for their math books, but the readers are just as great!
