Guide words and dictionary skills are tough for young students. This hands on activity with guide words gets students involved in putting words in alphabetical order and choosing the words that fit between two guide words. All of the activities require students to look at the second letter or beyond to put them in alphabetical order.
The file also includes a worksheet to assess students and 24 task cards that can be used with your students for various activities.
I graduated from Longwood College in 1997 and spent the first 14 years of my career as an educator in third and fourth grade classrooms. I loved teaching children, but my passion has always been with teaching reading.
I graduated from the University of Virginia with my Masters in Reading in May 2010 and waited patiently for the moment when I could do what I do most and help struggling readers learn to read! In 2011, that dream came true! Now I spend my days as a reading specialist working with students in Kindergarten through fifth grade as they learn to overcome reading difficulties and work to become stronger readers.
In 2012, I began my blogging journey where I highlight books, ideas, and my days in the classroom. You can visit my blog Reading Toward the Stars to learn more about my life as a reading specialist.
