This set of CVCe read and write the room centers includes 44 word cards with corresponding pictures that give meaning to the words as students decode and write them. This makes them great vocabulary builders for all students, and especially for those learning English as a second language. Twelve word cards and a recording sheet are included for each of the following long vowels: long a, long i., long o. Eight word cards and a recording sheet are provided for long u.
Three mixed practice recording sheets are also included should you wish to have students decode, sort, and write the words. These are great for review!
Two options for each recording sheet, one with handwriting lines and one with regular lines, are also provided. Choose the version that best meets your students’ needs.
These cards can be used in a variety of ways. In my own second grade classroom, I use them during my small group center rotations at the beginning of the week, when the weekly phonics and spelling skill is still new. I tape the cards around the classroom, give each student in the center group a clipboard, and send them on a silent scavenger hunt to find, read, and write each word on their recording sheets. There is also space at the bottom of each recording sheet for students to practice writing a sentence or two using the words. This activity could also be done as a whole-class scoot game.

I have been teaching elementary school in an urban district in Massachusetts for six years. I began my career teaching in first grade and have now transitioned into second grade. I especially enjoy creating engaging book studies and center activities for my students.
I believe in providing my students with plenty of positive reinforcement and a variety of ways to access any and all academic content. My lessons incorporate authentic, hands-on, and cooperative learning experiences whenever possible, and I provide many opportunities to build reading and writing skills across all content areas.
I hold a bachelor's degree from Clark University where I majored in Psychology and minored in Education and Sociology. My master's degree is in Teaching and is also from Clark University.
